Welcome to the Creating Normal Podcast!
Hosted by James Prescott and Teresa Colón, Creating Normal is about the intersection of creativity and mental illness. We cover a wide variety of topics on the creative process, platform- and audience-building, and get real and honest about how our own struggles with mental illness impact the journey. James Prescott
Hi, I’m James Prescott. I’m a writer, creative coach and podcaster from near London, over in the UK! (which means that yes, I have a British accent). I’m passionate about helping others explore their creative side, and advocating for those with mental illness. I suffer with anxiety and, potentially undiagnosed PTSD, as well as being a highly sensitive person, so have to live with mental illness on a daily basis.
I’ve written five books (two on writing), including my most recent, ‘Mosaic Of Grace’ and I’ve hosted the Poema Podcast, on creativity, identity and spirituality, for nearly 3 years. I’ve also guest posted for several major writing blogs, written for the Huffington Post, coached writers and creative people for several years, and been a 3-time guest on ‘Moments Of Clarity’, a US radio show discussing mental health issues.
I care about helping people discover their true identity, their authentic creative calling, and also about supporting those with mental illness, raising awareness and understanding, and ending mental health stigma. I do that with my writing and podcasting – and it’s one reason I wanted to help start this podcast.
I’m so excited to be partnering with Teresa in creating and sharing this podcast with you.
Teresa Colón
I am thrilled to have you with us! I am a writer, speaker, and generally creative person. I also run Wounded Birds Ministry, a community that provides education, encouragement, and support for people living with mental illnesses. When I’m not writing or hanging out in the Facebook group, you can usually find me off knitting somewhere. I enjoy picking out colors, figuring out which yarns to use, and modifying patterns to get exactly the result I want. A newer hobby for me is cooking, which I am also discovering allows me to be creative as well!
I’m looking forward to sharing with you my creative experiences and exploring topics on creativity and mental illness with James. I hope you enjoy the podcast as much as I enjoy creating it.
